Michael on Affirmation and Visualizations

(Several Sessions; No Dates)

Q. Michael often recommends that we try visualization and affirmations. However, they warn us against scripting. What is the difference between scripting and these other two approaches?

A. The operative difference here is flexibility, and yes, the point is well taken, that these techniques can and often do cross the line into scripting.

Let us make a few definitions from our perspective before we continue. Scripting, as you have discussed, is the whole and rigid planning out of an event, which is most often doomed to failure because none of the other parties can know the script, and consequently "flub their lines".

In the case of affirmations, the creation of a positive attitude by statements can indeed be Good Work, such as I am able to deal effectively and kindly with my problems, to the benefit of all concerned is a valid and workable affirmation. I am going to take over the company by June twelfth is not Good Work, and as an affirmation it lacks opportunity for the Vectors to work.

In visualizations, the perception of oneself in a desirable situation is Good Work if it is flexible - for instance, if the visualizations contain many variations on the theme, and therefore do not commit you to one and only one pattern. Necessarily, scripting is limiting and inhibiting. Flexible visualization can permit a vast number of variations and responses.

It is not amiss to "play with" the circumstances visualized for experience. You may wish to gain the opportunity to speak to a particular fragment. Rather than decide that you will meet at such and such a party, where you will wear blue and the other fragment will wear cranberry and you will first talk over the dessert, it is more effective to visualize the conversation as already taking place in a variety of settings: picnics, cruises, hikes in the mountains, riding in a cab, walking on the riverbank, etcetera. We would welcome more questions on these matters.

Q. Michael often recommends that we try visualization and affirmations. However, they warn us against scripting. What is the difference between scripting and these other two approaches?

A. Here is one suggestion: I am aware of the difficulties of the work and am competent to perform it. Therefore, I intend to enjoy myself, and I affirm that this enthusiasm will communicate itself to all concerned, both for their perception and their entertainment [enjoyment?].

Q. Suggestions for affirmations or visualizations please?

A. The first is an affirmation: I am prepared and excited for this next step of my life, and ______ opportunities ____ benefit of all concerned. The visualization: ____ will serve as an excellent place to begin.

Q. Do affirmations work in financial situations?

A. In the sense that one is prepared to accept prosperity as a benefit to all concerned, yes.

Q. For musicians, shouldn't they "hear" rather than visualize?

A. Visualization can take many forms. We did not mean to imply that visualizations are mute. You can create the rustlings and coughings of the audience if it increases the validity for you.
