Q. What were the circle stones used for in Avebury?

A. Generally they were used for marking out specific days of "the year" such as the equinoxes and the solstices. Plus of course, the pattern of full moons to be found in the most outlying of stones. These tended to time sacrifices and offerings and in general we would have to say that the tendency to assign "otherworldly" preoccupations to these sites are more wishful thinking than actual memory.
